1934–35 German WHW Winterhilfswerk Eagle Badge – Early Third Reich Era Collectible
This is an authentic Winterhilfswerk (WHW) donor badge from the 1934–1935 winter relief campaign in Germany. Cast in gilt metal, the badge features the iconic eagle with outstretched wings above a circular emblem inscribed “WHW 1934–35.” At its center is a decorative glass cabochon inset, a detail that distinguishes this example from the simpler stamped tin badges of the same era.
The inset is symbolic as well as decorative, evoking the winter theme of the relief drive—its white tone with a warm amber spot suggesting the contrast of snow and fire, cold and warmth, which was central to the Winterhilfswerk’s seasonal campaigns. Badges with glass or enamel inserts were considered higher-quality donor pieces and are today among the more sought-after WHW issues.
The reverse retains its period safety-pin style clasp, typical of WHW production. Now nearly ninety years old, this badge remains a tangible artifact of the early Third Reich years and one of the earlier WHW campaigns.
Because of its combination of early date, eagle motif, and distinctive glass inset, this piece stands out as a desirable collectible for serious militaria enthusiasts and WHW badge specialists.
This badge is offered as a historical collectible only, intended for study and preservation.
